Technical Tool Overview: Waterproof Rating Estimator
The Hydrostatic Head (HH) test measures the “Breakthrough” point of a fabric. Imagine a vertical glass tube (1 inch diameter) placed over the fabric. The “mm” rating tells you how high you can fill that tube with water before it starts leaking through the fabric.
Functional Logic & Architecture
- Barrier Technology: * Membranes (Gore-Tex): Microporous structures that are physically too small for water droplets but large enough for sweat vapor.
- Coatings (PU): A solid layer of polyurethane painted onto the fabric. Cheaper, but less breathable and prone to cracking over time.
- The “Seam” Weakness: Fabric might be 20,000mm waterproof, but if the seams are stitched without Heat-Sealed Tape, water will leak through the needle holes. The tool applies a penalty for non-taped construction.
- Durability Decay: Every wash cycle physically abrades the waterproof barrier (especially DWR sprays), reducing the HH rating.
Features & Capabilities
- Sleek 4px UI: Condensed for professional tech-pack documentation.
- Real-World Decay: Factors in “Wash Cycles” to show how performance drops over the garment’s lifecycle.
- System Rating: Unlike simple fabric tests, this considers the Seam Integrity, providing a rating for the whole garment.
Industry Use Cases
- Quality Control: Determining if a factory’s lamination meets the brand’s 10,000mm standard.
- Consumer Clarity: Helping Rangeen Jora explain the difference between a “Waterproof Parka” and a “Water-Resistant Windbreaker.”
- App Development: Providing DIHOD Software House with the logic for a “Performance Gear Comparison” feature.
