Understanding Fetal Weight Estimation
Doctors use specific bone and tissue measurements from an ultrasound to estimate a baby’s weight. At DIHOD Software House, we’ve implemented the Hadlock 4 Formula into Creshy Tools, which is known for its high accuracy in predicting fetal weight during the second and third trimesters.
Key Ultrasound Measurements
1. BPD (Biparietal Diameter)
This measures the diameter of the baby’s head from one side to the other. It helps determine the baby’s age and brain development.
2. AC (Abdominal Circumference)
This is the most important measurement for estimating weight as it reflects the baby’s nutrition and fat stores.
3. FL (Femur Length)
The length of the thigh bone. It is used to check the longitudinal growth of the baby’s limbs.
Why Monitoring Fetal Growth Matters
In Karachi, factors like maternal nutrition and gestational health play a huge role in baby weight. Regular tracking helps identify:
- IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction): When the baby is smaller than expected.
- Macrosomia: When the baby is larger than average (common in diabetic pregnancies).
- Development Milestones: Ensuring the baby is growing at a steady pace relative to their gestational age.
