PDF Tint Remover
Neutralize yellow, sepia, or blue-ish color casts by correcting each color channel โ not just brightness.
A Tint Isn’t Just Brightness โ It’s a Color Cast
Old paper doesn’t just get darker with age, it shifts color โ usually toward yellow or sepia as the paper oxidizes, sometimes toward blue if it was scanned under fluorescent lighting or with a poorly calibrated scanner. This is different from a simple gray shadow or a dim exposure, because the red, green, and blue channels aren’t fading evenly. A yellowed page has noticeably more red and green than blue; a blue-tinted scan has the opposite imbalance. A brightness-based tool can lighten the page overall, but it can’t fix this kind of imbalance, because the problem isn’t how bright the page is โ it’s how the color channels sit relative to each other.
How Auto White Balance Works
The tool samples the brightest area of each page โ the part most likely to represent what should be pure white paper โ and reads its red, green, and blue values separately. If that sample comes back as, say, more red and green than blue, the tool knows the whole page is carrying a yellow cast of a specific strength. It then calculates a correction factor for each channel individually and applies it across the page, pulling the imbalanced channels back toward neutral so the sampled area actually reads as white, and everything else on the page shifts proportionally along with it.
Per-Channel Correction
Adjusts red, green, and blue independently instead of applying one flat brightness change to every pixel.
Automatic Cast Detection
Reads the actual color imbalance from your page rather than assuming every document has the same yellow or blue tint.
Adjustable Correction Strength
Apply a partial correction to keep some of the original character of aged paper, or a full correction for a clean neutral look.
Optional Whitening Pass
Once the color cast is neutralized, optionally run a whitening step to flatten the now-neutral background to pure white.
Where Color Casts Show Up
- Aged or archival paper that has yellowed or turned sepia over years of storage
- Documents scanned under warm indoor lighting, which often introduces a yellow-orange cast
- Scans from older or uncalibrated scanners that shift colors toward blue or green
- Photocopies of photocopies where each generation can pick up a slight color drift
How to Use It
- Upload your PDF: Choose the document with a visible yellow, sepia, or blue cast.
- Leave Auto White Balance on: It reads the cast directly from your page.
- Set correction strength: Full correction for a clean neutral page, partial to keep some character.
- Download your result: Optionally whiten the now-neutral background as a final step.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this remove intentional colors, like a colored letterhead? Correction is based on the lightest sampled area, typically the paper background; small colored design elements usually shift only slightly rather than disappearing.
What if my document has no clearly white area to sample from? The tool uses the lightest region it can find as a reference; on heavily tinted pages with no near-white area, results may be less precise.
Can this fix a blue-tinted scan the same way as a yellow one? Yes โ the correction direction is calculated from whatever imbalance is actually detected, whether that’s excess yellow, blue, or another cast entirely.
