Reads Each Page First

PDF Backdrop Cleaner

Automatically tells text pages apart from image-heavy pages, and cleans each one appropriately instead of applying one setting to everything.

One Setting Doesn’t Fit Every Page

A lot of real documents aren’t uniform. A quarterly report might open with a few pages of dense text, then switch to a full-page chart, then back to text, then a scanned photo pasted into an appendix. Run a single whitening setting across the whole file and you’ll usually get one of two problems: either it’s too gentle to clean the text pages properly, or it’s aggressive enough to wash out detail in the charts and photos. PDF Backdrop Cleaner solves this by looking at each page individually before deciding how to treat it.

How Page Classification Works

As each page renders, the tool samples its pixel data and measures how much of the page is made up of large, continuous blocks of similar color โ€” typical of photos, charts, and graphics โ€” versus how much is made up of small, sharp contrast changes, typical of dense text. Pages that lean heavily toward continuous color blocks get flagged as image-heavy and, if protection is enabled, receive a much lighter cleaning pass so their visual detail isn’t flattened. Pages that read as mostly text get the full cleaning strength you’ve set, since there’s no image data at risk there.

Automatic Page Classification

Each page is analyzed on the fly and treated as text-heavy or image-heavy without you having to sort pages manually.

Image Protection Mode

When enabled, pages flagged as image-heavy get a much gentler cleaning pass so photos and charts keep their detail.

Per-Page Activity Log

See exactly which pages were classified as text or image-heavy and how each one was treated, right after processing.

One Upload, Consistent Logic

No need to split a mixed document into separate files just to apply different settings to different sections.

Documents Where This Matters Most

  • Reports and presentations exported to PDF that mix text slides with embedded charts or screenshots
  • Academic papers combining dense text with figures, diagrams, or scanned data tables
  • Scanned booklets that alternate between text pages and full-page illustrations or photos
  • Mixed-source files assembled from several different scans or exports of varying quality

How to Use It

  1. Upload your document: Add a PDF that mixes text and image-heavy pages.
  2. Set your text cleaning strength: This applies to pages classified as text-heavy.
  3. Leave image protection on: Keeps photos and charts from being over-cleaned.
  4. Review the page log: Check how each page was classified, then download your result.

Processed Entirely in Your Browser

Page analysis, classification, and cleaning all happen locally as your document is rendered. No page or image is ever uploaded elsewhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if a page has both dense text and a large image? Mixed pages are classified based on which type of content dominates the page; a page that’s mostly text with one small image will usually be treated as text-heavy.

Can I see why a specific page was classified a certain way? The page log after processing lists each page’s classification, so you can spot-check results and adjust settings if something looks off.

Does turning off Image Protection change anything else? With it off, every page โ€” regardless of content โ€” is cleaned using the same text-page strength you’ve set.
