Introduction

The USB Issue Checker is a browser-based diagnostic utility that leverages the WebUSB API. It allows users to safely interact with their USB hardware to verify if the operating system and browser can “see” the device. At DIHOD Software House, we’ve designed this tool to help you identify if a USB problem is hardware-related (dead port/cable) or software-related (missing drivers).

Common USB Problems & Solutions

Connection Issues

  • Device Not Recognized: Often caused by a faulty USB cable or a loose port in your laptop.
  • Power Surge: Some high-power devices (External HDDs) might not work on low-power front ports.

Driver Problems

  • Yellow Triangle: If the device appears in “Device Manager” with an error, you need a specific driver.
  • Outdated Controller: Update your USB Root Hub drivers from the manufacturer’s site.

How to Use

  1. Plug in your USB: Ensure your mouse, keyboard, or flash drive is connected to your PC.
  2. Click Scan: Press the “Scan for Device” button. A browser popup will appear.
  3. Select Device: Choose your device from the list and click “Connect”.
  4. Analyze: The tool will display the Vendor ID (VID) and Product ID (PID). If these show up, your port and cable are working perfectly!

Real-World Examples

  • The Karachi Freelancer: A developer checking if their new mechanical keyboard is being detected correctly before troubleshooting a custom firmware flash.
  • Office Troubleshooting: A technician at Creshy Group verifying if a printer’s USB cable is functional without opening the “Device Manager”.
  • Gaming Setup: A user at Creshy Studio identifying the Vendor ID of a generic controller to find the correct legacy drivers online.
Sufyan’s Pro Tip: If your USB device is not showing up in the scan, try the “Rear Ports” if you are using a Desktop PC. Front panel ports are connected via internal cables that often become loose or don’t provide enough voltage for stable connections!
