Bottom Estimator
Calculate fabric for Trousers, Shalwars, and Palazzos.
Technical Tool Overview: Trouser/Shalwar Fabric Estimator
The Trouser/Shalwar Fabric Estimator handles the specific “Cutting Layouts” used in Eastern and Western bottoms. Unlike a shirt, where the chest is the widest part, in bottoms, the Seat (Hip) and Flare determine if two panels can fit side-by-side on a fabric roll.
Functional Logic & Architecture
- The Style Multiplier: This tool uses a specific factor to determine how many times the vertical length of the garment must be purchased:
- Straight Trouser (2.0x): Requires two full lengths of fabric because the front and back panels are usually cut vertically.
- Standard Shalwar (2.5x): Accounts for the extra width (Ghera) needed for gathers at the waist.
- Patiala (3.0x+): Uses a heavy multiplier to account for the numerous pleats that characterize this traditional style.
- The “Arz” (Width) Efficiency: If a user selects 60″ (Bara Arz), the tool applies a “Nesting Optimization.” For a straight trouser, the front and back panels can often be “nested” together, reducing the fabric requirement from 2.25m down to roughly 1.75m.
- Buffer Allowances: The algorithm adds a constant 6 inches to the length.
- 4 inches for the “Nefa” (the casing for the elastic or drawstring).
- 2 inches for the “Pancha” (the reinforced bottom hem).
Features & Capabilities
- Regional Fit Logic: Tailored for the specific needs of unstitched lawn shoppers in Pakistan and India.
- Style-Dependent Recommendations: Automatically adjusts the math based on whether the user wants a narrow pant or a heavy-pleated Patiala.
- Dual-Unit Dashboard: Displays results in Meters and Yards, allowing users to shop confidently at any local or international retailer.
Industry Use Cases
- Tailoring Intake: Helps boutique owners at DIHOD Software House client sites quickly tell customers how much “Katra” (fabric) to bring for their specific design.
- E-Commerce Upselling: Brands like Rangeen Jora can use this to recommend the correct amount of matching “Dyed Trouser Fabric” for an unstitched shirt piece.
- Wastage Reduction: By providing an accurate estimate, it prevents customers from over-buying fabric, leading to a more sustainable shopping experience.
