PDF Blur Fixer
Recover readable edges on out-of-focus or shaky-hand scans using edge-enhancement sharpening, plus optional background cleanup.
Blur Is an Edge Problem, Not a Background Problem
A page can be perfectly white and still be hard to read if it’s blurry. Out-of-focus phone photos, a shaky hand during capture, or a low-resolution webcam scan all produce the same core issue: the sharp transition between a letter and the page behind it gets smeared into a soft gradient instead of a crisp edge. Whitening or color correction can’t fix that, because the problem isn’t the background color โ it’s that the edges themselves have lost definition. PDF Blur Fixer works on exactly that: it re-emphasizes the edges in your document to make text read more clearly, using the same principle photo editors call sharpening.
How Sharpening Actually Works
The tool creates a deliberately softened copy of each page, then compares it to the original to figure out exactly where the meaningful edges are โ the places where the original was noticeably different from its blurred version. It then exaggerates those differences and adds them back into the original image. The effect is that edges, like the sides of a letter’s strokes, get pushed toward higher contrast, which the eye reads as sharper, even though no new detail is actually being invented. Auto Blur Detection measures how soft the page’s edges already are before applying this, so a mildly soft page gets a gentle boost while a genuinely blurry one gets a stronger correction.
Edge-Enhancement Sharpening
Rebuilds contrast at letter edges using an unsharp-mask style technique, rather than simply increasing overall contrast.
Auto Blur Detection
Estimates how soft each page’s edges are and calibrates the sharpening strength automatically, page by page.
Manual Strength Control
Set your own sharpening amount when you want direct control instead of the automatic estimate.
Combined With Whitening
Optionally clean up the background in the same pass, useful when a scan is both blurry and tinted.
What Causes This Kind of Blur
- A phone camera that focused on the wrong distance when the photo was taken
- Hand movement during capture, producing a faint motion smear across the page
- A low-resolution or older webcam used to “scan” a document
- A document photographed slightly too close, beyond the camera’s minimum focus distance
How to Use It
- Upload your PDF: Add the document with soft or blurry text.
- Leave Auto Blur Detection on: It reads each page and picks a fitting sharpening level.
- Adjust manually if needed: Turn off auto mode for a fixed sharpening amount instead.
- Sharpen and download: Get a document with noticeably clearer text edges.
What Sharpening Can’t Do
This process enhances existing edges โ it can’t reconstruct detail that was never captured in the first place. A severely out-of-focus or heavily motion-blurred page will improve, but it won’t become as sharp as a properly focused scan.
Runs Entirely in Your Browser
Blur measurement and sharpening both happen locally as each page renders. Your document is never uploaded during processing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can this fix severely blurry, unreadable text? It improves edge clarity but works best on mild-to-moderate blur; text that’s completely illegible in the original usually stays difficult to read.
Will heavy sharpening introduce visual noise? Yes, pushing the sharpening amount very high can amplify grain or artifacts along with the edges โ start with Auto Detection and adjust from there.
Does this work on photos or just text pages? It applies to the whole page, so photos and graphics get the same edge enhancement as text, which can also help slightly blurry images.
