Introduction

The Target Heart Rate (THR) is a range of heartbeats per minute (BPM) that allows your heart and lungs to receive the maximum benefit from a workout. At DIHOD Software House, we use the Karvonen Formula, which considers your Resting Heart Rate (RHR) for a more personalized and accurate result. This is vital for residents in Karachi starting a new fitness regime to ensure they are working out at a safe intensity.

Understanding Heart Rate Zones

Different intensities yield different physiological results:

Fat Burning Zone

  • Intensity: 50% to 70% of Max HR.
  • Benefit: Ideal for weight loss and building basic endurance.
  • Feel: You can carry on a conversation while moving.

Aerobic (Cardio) Zone

  • Intensity: 70% to 85% of Max HR.
  • Benefit: Improves cardiovascular fitness and lung capacity.
  • Feel: Breathing is heavy, but you’re not gasping.

How to Measure Resting Heart Rate (RHR)

  1. Timing: The best time is in the morning, right after you wake up.
  2. Method: Place two fingers on your wrist (radial pulse) or neck (carotid pulse).
  3. Count: Count the beats for 60 seconds. A typical RHR for adults is 60–100 BPM.

Real-World Examples

  • Weight Loss Journey: A user at Creshy Studio staying in the “Fat Burn” zone during long walks to maximize calorie expenditure.
  • HIIT Training: Athletes pushing into the “Peak” zone for short bursts to increase metabolic rate.
Sufyan’s Pro Tip: If you are on any medication for blood pressure or heart conditions, these formulas might not be accurate for you. Always consult a medical professional in Karachi before starting a high-intensity training program!
